Aubrey Grace Westhead 7 Days New

Laura contacted me in May of this year to book her newborn shoot, after seeing my leaflets when she came up to Snugburys for an ice cream! Laura and James had their previous newborn shoot done at Mothercare and she mentioned that they felt a little rushed and that the images were a little bit on the plain side so they wanted to try somewhere different this time around. Once booked in, I sent Laura my T&C's and prep sheet so she would have a full understanding of what to expect on the day of the shoot. A newborn session isn't like just any other photo shoot. Lasting up to 4 hours, the session is completely baby led, allowing time for feeding, nappy changes and of course, getting the little one off to sleep!

Aubrey was just 7 days old when she came to visit me for her session. This is a perfect age for a newborn shoot. We always try to schedule a session before baby reaches 14 days of age. After the first two weeks, babies become less sleepy and more alert making sleepy poses a little more challenging.

The first thing I noticed about her was all that hair! I do love a baby with a good head of hair! She was absolutely stunning! We started with some sibling shots with her big brother Mason, who was a little star and loved posing for the camera! When siblings come along to a shoot we always do their photos first and ask that somebody is able to collect them afterwards as four hours in my cosy little studio is a little bit too much to ask of any child's patience!

Once the sibling shots were complete we set to work on Aubrey's images. Her Mummy had requested neutrals and whites with a touch of pink but she did give me a little artistic licence as well! We began with some beanbag shots and a beautiful little lace outfit which suited Aubrey perfectly, she looked so gorgeous. And she slept like a dream. She loved being on her tummy so I took full advantage and used lots of different headband, hats and wraps. In fact, she was sleeping so soundly that I didn't like to move her when the time came for some prop shots!

Once we were all finished, Laura and James dressed Aubrey and she never even awoke! She was so content and sleepy from beginning to end with only one feed throughout! I wish all sessions could go as smoothly! But don't worry when you come for your shoot if your baby doesn't want to sleep, we allocate plenty of time for exactly this reason and I have patience in abundance. There is nothing more satisfying than getting the shot after putting the work in for it! If you would like more information about my newborn sessions please don't hesitate to contact me either through my website or my Facebook page. I'll look forward to hearing from you! Meanwhile, here are some of my favourite images from Aubrey's session.
